Piece of Peace November 2016

This fall has been particularly busy for us at Peace of Bread Community Kitchen. Now that summer is over & the kids are back in school, our focus has switched from shopping for the Summer Brunch Bags Program (We gave out 200 much appreciated “filled to the brim” brown paper grocery bags over the 10 weeks of summer vacation!) to trying to keep our Food Pantry shelves somewhat stocked. The need for food staple assistance remains constant, with as many as 40 families a week needing help from our food pantry. It is a challenge to keep up with the need for sure.
We have been truly blessed by many of our wonderful volunteer groups & individuals who donate funds & food to help stock our food pantry. Anonymous food donations just show up at our food pantry doors almost every week as well. How amazing is that?! Our own Deacons help us through their brown bag food donation efforts too. Peace of Bread team members regularly shop for the food pantry as well, thanks to the monetary donations we receive.
In addition to all this, Northbridge Boy Scout Troop #155 held their bi-annual Food Drive for Peace of Bread on October 15th. They worked all day at Shaw’s & Walmart collecting food staple donations, from our generous community shoppers, then stocked our almost empty food pantry shelves to the ceiling! Their community service efforts which fill up our food pantry at Peace of Bread has been instrumental in our being able to offer food assistance to as many people as we do. How truly wonderful is this?!
We are thankful for ALL who give to Peace of Bread Community Kitchen. Whether it is food, funds, clothes, time…it all makes a huge difference in the lives of the people in our community. As I say every week while volunteering at Peace of Bread…God is good! We are grateful to serve alongside so many generous & hardworking people from our community.
Peace~
