Piece of Peace October 2016

One of my favorite things about Peace of Bread is being a part of the community that is gathered each week. I love seeing people coming early just to spend time catching up with one another and saving seats for their friends. I am amazed by the acts of love and mercy that take place every week, whether it is carrying drinks for one of our seniors or helping a young mom clean up after a spill. I am humbled by the genuine love and concern that this community shares for one another. The prayers we offer each week, the updates on health issues and struggling friends that get lifted up to the group. I am amazed by the tenderness that we have for each other, people volunteering to check on people who have been missing for a few weeks, meals being hand delivered for those who are unable to join us due to health issues or weather.
I love the community that I see among the volunteers as well. Churches and community members united with the common purpose of serving those in need. I love the stolen moments in the back room, just a few minutes of rest once the food is ready and we are just waiting for serving time. Precious time to catch our breath and to reconnect with one another. I find our circle prayer in the kitchen to be holy time – a time when we offer ourselves to God in service and ask him to help us face whatever challenges the evening might hold.
For me, Wednesdays nights are a little taste of heaven, just a small glimpse of what is to come. I can’t help but to think that this is what the church is supposed to be. People loving and serving one another, putting others before themselves, turning to God in prayer. It is a beautiful thing to be hold!
And none of this would be possible without you. Whether you are with us each week, or once a year, your faithful gifts make all of this possible. Those of you who work behind the scenes keeping everything running smoothly, those of you who donate and pray, those of you who cheer us on as we continue this important work, none of it would be possible without you! Thank you for believing in the ministry that happens on Wednesday evenings and being a part of all that we do. We are so thankful to have you as a part of our wonderful community!
